Temporal Comparison

What operational differences exist between managing Temporal yourself and using Catalyst?

Self-hosting Temporal requires you to operate a cluster, maintain history and visibility stores, handle scaling, and manage upgrades. Catalyst is a fully managed service: Diagrid handles infrastructure, scaling, and patching. You focus on building durable workflows and agent runners. Catalyst also adds framework-agnostic agent support, workload identity, and MCP tool authorization, which Temporal does not natively offer. Choose self-hosted Temporal if you need full infrastructure control; choose Catalyst to reduce ops burden.
