Restate Comparison

How does the local development experience differ between Restate and Catalyst for building durable agent workflows?

Catalyst allows you to develop with your preferred agent framework locally, then deploy to a managed runtime without changing code. Restate requires using its SDK and running a local Restate server for development. Catalyst's local dev experience includes workload identity and MCP tool authorization policies that mirror production, while Restate's is simpler but limited to its own runtime model. Choose Catalyst if you want to keep existing agent frameworks and production controls from day one.
