What are the operational differences between self-hosting Temporal and using Catalyst?
Self-hosting Temporal requires managing a Temporal Server cluster, persistence (Cassandra/PostgreSQL), and scaling workflow workers. Catalyst is a managed platform that handles infrastructure, scaling, and monitoring for durable execution and agent runners. Catalyst also includes built-in workload identity and MCP policy enforcement, reducing operational overhead. If you need full control over the runtime, self-hosted Temporal gives you that; Catalyst trades control for reduced ops burden.
