Cost & Evaluation

What method should I use to compare the total cost of ownership between a managed durable execution service and a self-hosted open-source alternative without vendor-specific pricing?

Create a cost model with categories: compute resources, storage, network egress, operational staffing for maintenance and upgrades, and time spent on integration. For managed services, add potential overhead from API rate limits. For self-hosted, add security patching and failure recovery. A caveat: hidden costs like training and migration effort can dominate; include them as a separate labor line item.
