What infrastructure cost drivers are unique to durable execution compared to ephemeral agent runtimes?
Durable execution introduces persistent state storage, replay-enabled queues, and consistent history services that ephemeral runtimes do not require. These add costs for state stores, increased I/O, and longer retention of execution data. The mechanism is continuous checkpointing of agent state and event sourcing. However, these costs are workload-sensitive; simple linear sequences incur less overhead than branching agent workflows with large payloads.
