Durable Execution

Does durable execution guarantee exactly-once execution for AI agent tool calls?

No, durable execution does not guarantee exactly-once execution for tool calls or external side effects. It ensures the workflow resumes after failure, but replaying deterministic steps may re-invoke tools. Catalyst persists the call's result if it's deterministic, but if the tool call is non-idempotent, you risk duplicates. You must design tool calls with idempotency keys or use reconciliation patterns to handle this.
