Camunda is well suited to formal processes such as onboarding, claims, lending, and order management. BPMN provides a common visual language for business and technical stakeholders. When Catalyst is a strong fit
Catalyst is suited to teams that author agents in established frameworks and want those agents to recover from failure, operate under workload identities, and access services or MCP tools through policy. A useful decision boundary
If the primary artifact is a business process that people must model, approve, and monitor, start with Camunda. If the primary artifact is an Agent or application whose dynamic execution must be made durable and governed without replacing its framework, evaluate Catalyst.
The products may also coexist. A BPMN process can call a durable agent behind a service boundary; a Catalyst workflow can pause for human input without adopting BPMN. Choose the boundary that makes ownership, recovery, and audit evidence clearest.
