Maiden Century brings durable execution and agents into its own environment
Diagrid Catalyst helps Maiden Century keep critical alternative-data workflows running reliably, then run agent-driven analysis inside its own environment, where its hedge fund customers' data stays.
At a glance
- Company: Maiden Century, an alternative data platform for hedge funds and investors
- Industry: Financial data and analytics
- Product: Diagrid Catalyst
- Why they moved: reliable data pipelines and agent execution inside Maiden Century's own environment
Hundreds of data sources, one critical workflow
Maiden Century aggregates third-party data and turns it into insights that help hedge funds and investors shape investment strategy and execution. Its IDEA platform covers more than 3,000 tickers and 8,500 KPIs, drawing on hundreds of data sources.
Those data pipelines are the foundation of the platform. Feeds arrive on different schedules, APIs fail, and processing can stop midstream. If a workflow has to restart from the beginning, insights are delayed and completed work is lost. Maiden Century needed durable execution so each step could recover from failure and continue from the last completed point.
The challenge: reliable pipelines first, private agent execution next
Durable execution solved the first problem: keeping critical ingestion and processing workflows running across hundreds of third-party data sources.
The next step was agents. Maiden Century wanted agents to work across those datasets and help customers draw insights faster. But its hedge fund customers were not comfortable sending sensitive data or research workflows to an external cloud service.
That made deployment a requirement. Hedge funds work with their data inside Maiden Century's environment, and it has to stay there. Most durable execution providers only run as a cloud service, so Maiden Century needed one that could run inside its own cloud account or data center.
Why Diagrid Catalyst
Maiden Century needed one platform for both parts of the problem: durable execution for critical data pipelines and agent execution that could stay inside its own environment. Catalyst gave the team both.
Reliable execution for critical data pipelines
Catalyst persists completed workflow steps so failed ingestion and processing jobs can resume instead of starting over. That helps Maiden Century keep data moving across the hundreds of sources its platform depends on.
Agents run where customer data already lives
Catalyst runs inside Maiden Century's own cloud account or data center. Agent workflows, execution records, and the data hedge funds use stay inside the environment where those funds already work.
One platform across deployment modes
The same workflow code runs whether Catalyst is deployed in Maiden Century's cloud account, known as BYOC or bring your own cloud, or on-prem in its own data center. Maiden Century can choose where each workload runs without maintaining a separate workflow stack for each.
Managed operations inside Maiden Century's environment
Catalyst is operated and upgraded as a managed component, so Maiden Century does not have to run its own stateful cluster and database layer.
Results
- Critical data pipelines can recover from failures without restarting completed work
- Agent-driven analysis runs inside Maiden Century's own environment, where customer data stays
- One workflow codebase across BYOC and on-prem deployments
- No stateful cluster or database layer for Maiden Century's team to operate
“We aggregate data from hundreds of sources, and those pipelines are critical to the insights we deliver. Durable execution keeps that work moving when something fails. The next challenge was agents. Our hedge fund customers work with their data inside our environment, and it can't leave. Most providers only run in their own cloud, so we needed BYOC and on-prem deployment. Catalyst gave us both in one platform.”
